The Tilting Mouthpiece Swales Bit (Escargot) is a technical bit designed to provide precise control, progressive action and exceptional stability, while ensuring outstanding comfort for the horse. It is particularly suitable for horses that require structured support without poll pressure.
Its 30 mm flat straight mouthpiece, mounted on a 90° tilting joint, naturally follows the angle of the horse's jaw. This innovative design creates a broad contact surface that distributes pressure evenly across the mouth. The integrated tongue relief reduces pressure on the palate, improves jaw mobility and promotes relaxation.
The Swales (Escargot) bit shares certain characteristics with a Pelham, but with one major difference: it applies no pressure to the poll, as it does not act on the cheekpieces of the bridle. It is one of the few leverage bits that operates solely through the mouthpiece and curb chain, without directly influencing the horse's head and neck position. This provides excellent control while reducing the risk of over-flexion.
Its distinctive Swales-style sidepieces provide outstanding stability and a progressive transmission of the rider's aids, even with light hands. It is particularly suitable for horses that need help with balance or perform best with a stable frame but without excessive vertical restriction.
