Product Description

The Sweet Iron Double Jointed Pelham with Short Shanks combines the direct action of a snaffle with the supportive influence of a curb in one refined design. It applies pressure to the mouth while engaging a light leverage effect through the shanks, distributing pressure between the mouth, poll and chin. This dual action makes it an excellent option for horses requiring additional support, balance or control without moving to a stronger bit.

The Sweet Iron mouthpiece naturally oxidises with use, stimulating salivation and encouraging a softer, more relaxed acceptance of the bit. This contributes to a more supple contact and a calmer, more confident way of going.

The double jointed mouthpiece distributes pressure evenly across the tongue and bars, preventing the nutcracker effect associated with single jointed bits. It provides a stable and comfortable feel and is particularly suitable for horses with a lower palate, as it reduces upward pressure toward the palate.

The short shanks offer mild, easy-to-regulate leverage. Used with double reins, the rider can fine-tune the level of influence; with roundings, it offers a simplified setup. The addition of a curb chain stabilises the bit and ensures even pressure distribution.
