Product Description
The Sweet Iron Single Jointed Pelham with Short Shanks combines the direct action of a snaffle with the supportive influence of a curb in one refined design. It applies direct pressure to the mouth while engaging a mild leverage effect through the shanks, distributing pressure between the mouth, poll and chin. This dual action makes it an excellent option for horses that require additional support or balance without moving to a stronger bit.
The Sweet Iron mouthpiece naturally oxidises with use, stimulating salivation and encouraging a softer, more relaxed acceptance of the bit. This contributes to a more supple contact and a calmer, more confident way of going.
The single joint creates a clear and defined connection. When rein pressure is applied, the joint forms a gentle V-shape, distributing pressure across the tongue and bars. This design may suit horses with a higher palate, as it sits centrally without excessive pressure toward the palate. Many horses appreciate the straightforward and consistent action of a single jointed mouthpiece.
The short shanks provide mild, easy-to-regulate leverage. Used with double reins, the rider can fine-tune the level of influence; with roundings, it offers a simplified setup. The addition of a curb chain stabilises the bit and ensures even pressure distribution.
